Legendary Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso, has spoken out about Steven Gerrard’s start to life as a manager, as quoted by the Daily Record. Alonso won the World Cup and two European Championships with his country, while he also experienced considerable success at domestic level, including two Champions League wins. Alosno hold aloft the World Cup…

We will win trophies with SG, a born winner and top professional, a brilliant player and he will turn out the same as manager, he will put us back onto the top of the tree where we belong.
We are on one rung of the ladder at the moment and it wont be long till natural order is restored

I think SG has done really well, though some of his signings have been poor such as Flanagan, Coulibaly, Grezda, Ejaria, Lafferty, Saddiqe, McCauley and up until now Polster and King. There has been some great success like Kamara, Arfield, Davis, McGregor, Goldson and now Barasic. SG will be judged on winning trophies or the title. I would be much happier if a trophy was won last year or better results this year against Celtic and Young Boys but signs are good and hopefully if we continue to progress we will be a success. In my opinion it’s still early days and in Gerrards words " if I don’t win anything I will be a failure" so let’s hope we don’t have another year like last year.

Alex Ferguson said a 50% success rate on signings was a good rate.
SG has had failures, such as Grezda and Lafferty, but Flanagan is an England international who covers both FB slots and came on a free. Hardly a failure.
Coulibaly, Ejaria and Saddique were loans so minimal gamble and loss.
As you note, lots of successes too. So will wait until the end of this season to judge, but so far, so good
