Scott Arfield’s form these days must have Steven Gerrard thinking twice about a potential new number 10 in January. The Rangers manager spoke earlier this month about a need for improvement in that area. Despite the performances of Arfield and Ovie Ejaria, Gerrard stated the club didn’t have a natural number 10. Gerrard was clearly…
I agree that Arfield has improved and developed as the season has gone on. he is now producing the numbers, goals and assists, you would want to see from a No 10. I like him.
However, we have 4 CBs, 2 main strikers and yet are still looking to replace Lafferty as No 2 striker. the point being we need backup. With Dorrans and Murphy both out, if Arfield gets crocked then what? Murphy is out for the season. When is Dorrans due back? Can Kent or Grezda cover there?
Or should we bring in a striker and try Morelos there? He is good at linking play and ball retention with a fantastic goal threat. I guess it depends on whether SG feels he has enough in the way of options. I trust him to know what he is doing
Sensational point Skibadly. Perhaps a 10 could be used as cover, but it seemed like Gerrard wanted someone to come in and provide different attributes to what he believed Arfield brought to the table.
Arfield’s improvement must’ve had an effect on how Gerrard views him in recent weeks. I don’t think he was overly-pleased with how he started when he came in, but credit to him. One of the first names on the team-sheet and deservedly so.
You’re spot on too though, where is the cover? Grezda and Kent aren’t exactly improvements there. Ejaria perhaps in a more advanced area?
