Rangers fans are directing much of their ire in the immediate aftermath of the 1-0 defeat to lowly Hamilton at club captain James Tavernier and vice-captain Connor Goldson. On the pitch, a mix-up in communication between the two led to the only goal of the game, with individual errors costing the team for the second…
It is disappointing but I have to agree that the Captain and Vice-Captain are not the players that will take us forward and winning trophies again. Barry Ferguson was a captain that knew that you had to lead to get the best out of the team. I grew up watching Rangers before we stopped 10IAR. John Greig carried that Rangers team and we still won trophies then including the Cup Winners Cup too. I expect another major overhaul in the summer and a new Captain and Vice-Captain need to be appointed. I would have Ryan Jack as Captain and Greg Docherty as his Vice-Captain. WATP
In what way is goldson selling the jerseys a communication error between him and Tav. From what I saw Goldson thought he was a ball playing defender who thought he could do a dragback inside his own box and totally fluffed it. Can you explain what you mean by communication error between him and tav? Was tav screaming at him to clear the ball in japanese?
Our opinions are meaningless, we are so far removed from the decision making progress. I said it before the club needs financial input if it wants to win the SPL title.
Answer. No. Watching Tav hand over the armband is one of the more sickening sights if the season.
Jack and Docherty would be do much better it is embarrassing.
I must confirm my long held view that Tavernier is not a Captain. How can he motivate players, to avoid mistakes and “get stuck in”, when he makes real expensive clangers that change games and is like a dancing ballerina when it comes to tackling…sometimes he makes Windass look courageous (only joking!)
The problem is that there isn’t a stand out candidate, like a John Greig or Barry Ferguson, in the current first team squad. That’s why it was “quiet in the dressing room” the other night! It wouldn’t have been quiet if it had happened when Barry Ferguson was Captain!
The only guy that sets an example is McGregor! Only problem is that he’s too far away from most of the action, most of the time.
We have to find someone, cos Tavernier isn’t it!
