When Lee Wallace replaced the injured Borna Barisic during the first half at St Johnstone, it appeared that he was going to get another chance at Ibrox. Gerrard didn’t have to send the veteran on. Andy Halliday could have dropped to left-back, with Jordan Rossiter instead coming on in midfield. Yet, Wallace got the call.…
Lee Wallace should have always been deputy to Barisic. Whenever the first choice left back was out, Lee should have played. The former captain has shown loyalty to the club throughout his time at Rangers and he, at least, deserves the same respect in return.
Perhaps he was a sub against Hibs to have him fresh for Celtic? Maybe Gerrard was thinking ahead?
For me, Wallace is and always will be a Rangers hero. My main concern is, what exactly went on during the Murty tenure, maybe, Wallace was disruptive or disloyal? It’s hard to believe he was either, but whatever happened, it’s deep rooted, otherwise, Gerrard would have played him ahead of, Halliday.
Hugh,
It does seem nonsensical that a guy with his experience and proven ability was sitting about while Flanagan floundered at LB earlier in the season!
That’s thing about this issue, it’s tough without a full idea of what actually happened. Certainly surprised me that the problem has persisted despite a change of coaching staff in the summer.
I would be very surprised to see him on the team sheet tomorrow, but you never know!
