Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been linked with yet another move away from Ibrox with Turkish media claiming he is a possible target to take over at Besiktas. According to Mehmet Demirkol of beIN Sport, Gerrard’s name is one of two he has heard is being discussed to take the reins as the Turks go…
Only one club hes leaving the Gers for and we all know it
oh yeah I know its Celtic? To be honest if nothing is won this year there will be a question mark about his ability, he has not won anything yet and no top manager in the world would knock back Liverpool. I for one do not think for a minute it’s a done deal.
Klopp became Liverpool manager in 2015 he didn’t win his first trophy until 2019 should Liverpool have sacked him after two years?
I am not saying sack SG just saying there will be question marks over his ability. You cannot compare Kopp situation with Gerrard. All we have is Celtic to compete with. Liverpool have Chelsea, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd, and even Leicester. So no, of course he should not be sacked, and I will tell you why. He may not have won trophies but he showed great progress in Europe, in his first season he got to the final of Europa League and EFL Cup. Second season Champions league final then he won it in his third season. In the league he improved on past four seasons. Trying to compare SG to one of the best managers in the world is laughable. Last year we should have at very least have got to two cup finals or won a trophy, we did neither. We also ended up 9 points behind Celtic. If SG has another season like that his ability will be questioned that is all I am saying, not at any point did I say sack him. However if he was sacked no guarantee Liverpool will take him.
I agree SG is at the moment way off being ready to manage Liverpool .if Rangers were to sack SG at the end of this season if they finish trophy less it would mean a complete re-set what if the next manager didn’t achieve any better after two years? Teams that are constantly changing their manager every couple of years rarely have success (unless you are Chelsea and have spent over a billion on players) what Rangers need at the moment is patience and stability if the wheels were to come off completely in the second half of the season there would probably no need for a debate SG would probably walk away
Agreed, I worry though that there is so many Supporters being way overly positive about Gerrard I think jets need to be cooled. No doubt he is doing well but nothing has been achieved other than qualification for league stages and given quality of opposition and money spent It’s something that should be expected. Our biggest challenge is Celtic and better quality opposition and to date it’s not been plain sailing in fact far from it. If he fails this year it will depend on circumstances of failure for example was it down to a load of injuries or just bad tactics etc etc etc. I hope this year is a success if not it can only be assessed when all facts are known. PS just for clarification we were beaten by Celtic and Young Boys, and had draws against Progress and Legia and needed a last minute goal against Legia to qualify it’s not great. Also last minute goal to beat Killie and a free kick from Barasic to beat St Mirren. Against Hibs it was only 2-1 up until they a guy sent off in later stages of second half, likewise against Livingston we went a goal down and only looked good when they had a guy sent off. Some people might say it’s this resilience that wins leagues but after spending over 12 million these wins should be expected and arguably in an easier fashion.
