Stewart rages at Rangers' statement over Kilmarnock turnstile issues

Michael Stewart has criticised Rangers at length on BBC Sportsound, as quoted by the Daily Record. The former Hearts and Hibernian midfielder is never shy of a word when it comes to the Light Blues and this time he’s managed to make them out to be the villains of the unacceptable turnstile situation at Rugby…

I can see where he’s coming from as on a first cold read of the statement it didn’t read well - but like you say, when you look into the facts it’s absolutely right that Rangers should recognise the gate may have been forced for safety reasons.

Michael Stewart should really apologise

Verdict. Boohoo the world is against us. Get a grip! Our fans are ruining the reputation that we once had. No need to force entry and risk safety. Every club will have an issue with tickets at some point including Ibrox, you just have to suck it up and act with a bit of maturity. Then the disabled section debacle. Fans should be named, shamed and banned, and yes, Rangers must stump up to reapair it.

Maturity. Something the club, players and fans have not had in a long time. We issue a tit for tat statement every week when in the past the club would not react and just rise above it. Our players talk in the media then don’t back it up fully on the pitch, Rangers players used to play there way to success on the field, NOT by Celtic, Aberdeen, etc bashing on social media then ultimately falling short. Our squad has prooved NOTHING yet. Our fans destroy away sections, spit disgusting vile sectarian chants and ultimatly make it difficult for the club to build its reputation again after our financial collapse. I will NOT take my sons anywhere near the vile.

We need to improve.

Players talk on the pitch, show what Gough, Grieg, Ferguson, Butcher showed. Someone has a dig at the club, bash them on the park not on the internet.

Club, hold Rangers at a higher standard. We are the biggest most historied club in Scotland, lets act like it. We will not be dragged down by mud slinging form the SFA, Celtic and others. We can are simply better. Show everyone that the mud does not affect us, cream will rise to the top.

Fans, Ibrox is not welcoming for kids. I am desperate to take my boys to feel what we all feel at Ibrox but, the reputation does not help. The passion for Rangers should come first, NOT whatever religon sits in the away section, it doesn’t matter. As long as we win adn get sent home happy. Stopping Celtic getting 10 in a row is A LOT more important at this stage. And invading the pitch when we beat Kilmarnock, get over yourselves, that should be the least we expect, not celebrating it like a Champions League win. We should be winning over 90% of our games, you think we’d be used to winning by now.

Come guys. We are better, lets show it!!!

I couldn’t agree more with this comment. Terrific announcement last week about diversity. The cynic in me wondered how long it would take before so-called fans would metaphorically put two fingers up to the Board. We got the answer on Sunday.

I’m in complete agreement with the core of your argument, Rennie - but jeezo calm down a bit it’s nowhere near as bad as the picture you’re painting, and most importantly the club is headed in the right direction

It will take time - and we all need to get on board to drive it forward with optimism and enthusiasm - not by attacking each other and painting a bleak picture that’s only going to antagonise a lot of fellow fans

We’re on the up, and yes need to hold ourselves to the highest standards, but let’s work together on that positively
