Rangers travel to McDiarmid Park to take on St Johnstone in the early kick-off this afternoon. The Gers come into the game on the back of a confidence-boosting win over Feyenoord on Thursday night, while the Saints drew their last outing away at Aberdeen. Tommy Wright’s side are currently second bottom of the league, and…
I like Katic but trust the manager and support the team .These " fans " need to realise that there are things that happen , training , fitness and attitude for example that they dont know about . Its time that they stopped scapegoating Goldson and backed the manager who has made a huge difference over the last two seasons. If they cant they should go and " support" someone else .
From a footballing perspective I’m not so perturbed with Goldson staying in the side ahead of Katic - he’s more experienced and Gerrard clearly sees him as more balanced beside Helander
But it seems there must be some off field stuff with him having dropped out of the match day squad altogether 2 games in a row - doesn’t appear to be injured - it really would be good to know what’s happened
Goldson scored winner at Killie and has now scored here in Perth. I am not concerned about him being in the team but I do have concerns around Katic’s treatment, something a bit odd about him being totally dropped but as long as we keep getting results I’m happy.
It is not my place to second call SG, but I would have thought the best way to develop young players is have them play beside an older, more experienced player.
Big games apart, why can’t he play one of Goldson or Helander with one of Katic and Edmundson, if he has doubts about the younger ones’ ability. Though I am not sure why he would be doubting Katic. If he rested him midweek because we would not be under an arial bombardment, he must have know St Johnstone might try that.
I trust the manager and do not have a problem with Goldson. But I do think some people are in or out no matter what they do. Aribo over Docherty who outscored him in a much worse team another case in point.
I trust Gerrard’s judgement, particularly on midfielders, he’s clearly a much bigger fan of Aribo from what he’s seen
I find it astonishing. We have had a terrific start to the season, by far the best start to a season in a long long time. Yet some people still criticise/complain about the players he chooses or the way he gives preference to some players over others. SG’s priority is winning games of football, he makes the decisions on who plays and who doesn’t play, and as wigers4ever succinctly pointed out, we don’t know what is happening off the field, training, fitness, players attitude etc.
Surely, as Rangers supporters we should be very happy that the TEAM is getting excellent results, and as long as that continues trust Stevie to pick the players in the team.
I am happy we are winning games but I do not agree we are getting “excellent results” a draw against Legia and Progress with a last minute winner against Killie and Legia with struggles against St Mirren and a defeat at our biggest rivals is not excellent the wins at best were good as we are showing a resilience we never had last year. We are winning but its only what I would be expecting now that SG has been with the club a year and have spent in excess of 11 million quid. I don’t think there is any harm in debating who plays and who does not that’s why the forum exists. I for one pay my season ticket and I think I have every right to Criticise if we get beat or struggle to kill teams off. Against Hibs it was only 2-1 until they got a guy sent off in the 55th minute we only got our third in the 74th we also needed help against Livy with a guy getting sent off there as well. I am hopeful we will have a good season but under no circumstances am I going to sit back and say we have been excellent and that every decision he has made has been correct see the Celtic performance if you don’t believe me. P.S I actually don’t think anybody was criticising or complaining about todays team so not even sure why you wrote what you did.
weeman, I am not unhgappy with the team. And I am not unhappy with SG, who I think has doine a great job while still learning. I agree with wigers that we don’t know what is going on behind the scene, but we didn’t know last year either and it was clear that Katic was better than Worrall.
I hope SG is not playing favourites and I know some players look good on the training ground. My only concern is that Goldson has played a lot of football in the last 15 months with few breaks and I think a rst and roatation would be a good idea.
But as I said, SG has forgotten more about football than I will ever know, so I am happy to trust him and support my team
The whole issue with Katic is a mystery.
We won 4-0 today - try to find the positives they’re all right in front of you
In yesterday’s game you are right to point out positives even though the first half was poor and if not for Mcgregor we would have been down 1 nil. There was no positives against Celtic…so in my eyes it’s all a balancing act some good some bad…but no way are we excellent. Excellence to me is winning ever game comfortably through both halves with no defeats or draws and that it simply not the case.
Fair enough - good signs though for me
And me …though I still think in order to get through two games a week we need another striker, one injury or suspension we are struggling.
I’m coming round to this - maybe Shankland in January
Well hopefully somebody comes in. I suppose this is main reason why I am so annoyed with SG’s signings. We have Murphy, Aribo, Jones, Barker, Ojo and spent 7 million on Kent with Hastie and Middleton all on rangers books for a left midfield position and only 2 strikers. We even have Kamara, Holt, Docherty, Rossiter, Arfield, Halliday, Davis, McCrorie, King and Stewart in midfield and most of them could slot in there, its bonkers. Also concerned about right back position but that’s another story. I often wonder if its because we don’t have a striker on our backroom staff and its an area SG and McAllister are not comfortable with, I mean given the only guy they could come up with was a 36 year old Dafoe an ex colleague of SG I think I may have a point. I also think they missed a trick with Shankland. Maybe if SG and McAllister were strikers the balance would be totally different,10 strikers nay midfield. (joke). If Herrera is still on our books that’s blooming 19 midfielders. Two for every position at the most would be 10 if playing 4 5 1. The balance is all wrong.
