St Johnstone draw exposed flaw in Rangers transfer policy

Rangers were busy in the January Transfer Window. No one could argue that the club lacked ambition, either. Even going after as celebrated a player as Jermain Defoe, was a bold move. To actually bring him to Ibrox, a major coup. Defoe made a solid start but has cut a frustrated figure in the last…

Agreed. I said last summer that people might not like Windass, but where would we get his 17 goals from now?. I forget how many assists he had, but he delivered for us in the bread and butter games, although he had a tendency to float away in big matches.
I suspect SG knows we needed a number 10, but good ones we can afford who are available in January are probably quite thin on the ground. Murphy will hopefully be one option next season, but we will still need another.
Fingers crossed

I’ve written one or two things about Windass in the last few weeks that were rubbished quite quickly (he scored in three on the bounce for Wigan). Like you’ve said here, he certainly had his flaws but Rangers simply haven’t replaced his goals. He goes out, Grezda comes in - the difference in end product is massive and damaging.

Plenty of people have raised how Grezda needs time to settle and that is a fair point. Yet, that doesn’t mean neither he nor the transfer itself is immune to criticism. Fact of the matter is, in bringing an unproven player in for a guy who averaged not far off one every other game in all comps last year, you are taking a risk. So far, it simply hasn’t paid off.

As for Windass’s assists - six in the league last season to go with 13 goals.
