The silence of the lambs. The mauling of the mutton. The destruction of Dolly. Rangers’ ravenous ruination of Aberdeen was akin to a tame, springtime lamb being thrown to some starving wolves. Not only was the 5-0 hammering incredibly satisfying for supporters; it proves Rangers are genuine and real title contenders.
REACTION: Steven Gerrard…
Great result, and the style with which we dispatched the sheep was brilliant to watch - a great day and a long time coming like you say
But yesterday didn’t prove Rangers are title contenders, yes there was some additional pressure with the knowledge it would bring us within a point of Celtic, but I think seeing Celtic only managing a draw earlier in the day will actually have put a positive spring in the step of the full squad - they were massively up for it against (let’s be honest) a severely under strength Aberdeen side.
The games that prove Rangers are genuine title contenders are actually the ones where we couldn’t find top gear and still found a way to grit out a win - the 1-0 against St Mirren, the last minute goal to beat Kilmarnock, and coming back from a goal down against Livi are perfect examples of the types of games we didn’t get over the line last year, and the types of games that title contenders sneak - they show this is a different side and one capable of pushing it all the way
Willis this is another article that states the obvious. Title contenders we are, and so we should be given what we have spent compared to everyone else in the league apart from Celtic.
