Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie’s future has been up for debate as his Pittodrie contract enters its final few months – but suggestions of a move to Rangers are crazy as Gerrard’s side don’t need the 27-year-old. The midfielder has been a stalwart for the Dons since signing from Inverness Caley Thistle but it looks like…
Graham Shinnie would be a good signing for me. He may not be 10/10 at his very best but he is a very consistent performer at a minimum of 7/10 every week and we need consistency in our performances to keep winning and win trophies.
Like Hugh, I think he is a consistent 7/10. I agree we have a lot of midfielders and I was initially against the idea, but of your list “Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara, Ross McCrorie, Ryan Jack, Jordan Rossiter, Greg Docherty, Matt Polster and Steven Davis”; Davis is off in the summer, past it, Polster is cover for RB in case Tavernier goes, Rossiter likely to be away which leaves us with 5. We need a minimum of 1 attacking mid or No 10 so Shinnie would be our 7th if Docherty is retained which I would like. Its still a lot and leaves little room for youth, but he does seem to like options.
I also note you forgot Halliday but he seems to have accepted a role as backup LB
I feel like at this point we need to be more ambitious with our signings. The core squad is there, the spine is strong. We should be looking for players who are better than anything that is currently in the SPFL at the moment. Get 5 high quality players including a no. 10 that makes magic happen often.
