Ross McCrorie's form should shelve talk of Greg Docherty return

Ross McCrorie’s form in recent weeks has been a welcome boost to Rangers, but it should also put to bed talk of a Greg Docherty return. It’s almost been a trend this season. Whenever some of the loan players from Rangers have shown something, an element want them back at the club. This is despite…

I thought McCrorie was excellent against Celtic. Even if he isn’t a finished article yet, he’s nearly there. Everybody benefits with game time, and if that means McCrorie gets it at Ibrox and Docherty at Shrewsbury, then that’s how it should stay.

I agree. I think we have a settled working midfield for the first time this season. I have read that Coulibaly’s dad has died recently which may have badly affected him, in which case I would reserve judgement on him.
But right now i feel we are looking at what players fill the midfield backup, not the first team. We still have Halliday, Rossiter, Coulibaly, Dorrans and Murphy. Docherty is on loan and we have a number of very good youngsters waiting patiently. I am not going to bother counting Holt or Pena, no disrespect intended but they will not be forcing a way back into this team now.
I feel 9 is too many and at least 2 have to go. Dorrans and Rossiter are injury prone. I like Rossiter and wanted to give him a chance but think SG has seen enough when he is fit to believe he is not going to make it.
Docherty will return in the summer ready to fight for a jersey, which is as it should be.
If we bring in another No 10, not Davis who is more of a sitting midfielder now, then we could lose a third. Against most teams, 1 CDM is enough with a box to box man and a lockpicker.
If we get another good striker, or promote Dallas/Hardie/Rudden/Mepude next season, we will need one less midfielder anyway

Two totally different styled players .Ross is a defensive midfielder but Greg is more of a box to box player who can support the strikers ,He should return if we don`t sign anyone else in this role .Ross has more of an impact on Rossiters career and we should consider loaning him out to someone who will give him game time as he will struggle to get match fit with us at the moment.

Rossiter’s Rangers career is over now. That was the case regardless of McCrorie’s emergence in my view.

Docherty 100% should stay at Shrewsbury. McCrorie on current form will remain part of Gerrard’s midfield. A return for Docherty between now and the end of the season is pointless. McCrorie, Jack, Arfield, Coulibaly, Halliday are all ahead of him just now. There are different kinds of midfielders in there, but Gerrard has proven he’s happy to play with any combination of these.
