Rangers will find out their fate for the latest charge of alleged sectarian singing tomorrow when UEFA’s disciplinary committee meets in Switzerland – according to a report. The Scottish Sun reports that that the Gers will discover what punishment lies in store, with a stadium closure a real possibility. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images) After…
Club from now on should come out and make a statement that includes phrases like “FTP and Fenian Bastard slogans will not be tolerated” “Billy Boys in any format should not be sung” etc etc. The issue here is a lot of fans don’t actually know they are doing wrong because they are thick and need an explicit message regarding what is actually banned. A full page statement on every match day program stating a list of banned songs, chants, etc should be printed as well as a vocal announcement before every match, only then will we see a genuine effort to stop the bigotry it’s not bloody hard to be a wee bit more proactive. Last thing I want at Ibrox is an empty stadium on euro nights. The board must do something more honest and explicit rather than token gestures.
The club have already done many of the things you’ve suggested here - I don’t know what else can be done…but the problem of sectarianism in Scotland won’t go away until we get rid of religiously segregated schools…
There is no need to “cure” sectarianism just get our support to stop singing songs that are deemed offensive. If the song doesn’t mention Rangers, don’t sing it. If the song mentions someone not employed by Rangers, don’t sing it. If the song has offensive language, don’t sing it. I don’t want to miss European nights because some morons don’t know how to behave!
