Rangers defender Niko Katic has admitted that it was “difficult” being axed by manager Steven Gerrard earlier in the season after Filip Helander’s arrival at the club – but insists he is ready to prove himself all over again. Helander’s foot injury has given Katic a chance in the starting XI again after not starting…
I said it before and I will say it again he is the best cetnre back we have. He needs a chance, lets see what happens if he has a good run makes minimal mistakes. Lets see what happens when Filip is fit again. I would not want to guess.
I agree that Niko did nothing major to lose his spot but when Filip is fit what’s wrong with rotating them weekly to give them both the game time especially as we have a long way to go.
Or here’s a novel idea why not try dropping Goldson who can’t seem to do no wrong in Gerrards eyes, even though he is more error prone than Katic or Helander.
We have 4 quality CBs. SG brought them all in, so I suspect he agrees. They all need game time to improve or maintain levels.
Solution? Have a first choice pair, but rotate so that all play, be it in Europe and against them, or against St Mirren, Hamilton etc.
Anyone not good enough to be trusted against bottom teams shouldn’t be at Ibrox so play them all. Edmundson in particular needs game time.
The fact Katic has come back in playing at the same level demonstrates the fact that Gerrard is able to manage his players levels without having to chop and change his first team constantly to give them game time
And the fact he’s not dropping Goldson says a lot about what Gerrard thinks about him, and perhaps the broader leadership qualities he brings to the team
There are so many reasons to trust in Gerrard, I think he’s managing his CBs well
