Rangers should abandon reported pursuit of striker despite prolific start to season

Rangers have been again linked with a move for prolific striker Lawrence Shankland after his blistering start to the season for Dundee United – but the Gers should stop wasting their time looking at a striker who will never be good enough to be the main man at Ibrox. According to the Daily Record, both…

Your six week comment is stupid if that’s the argument King, Polson, Edmundsun Docherty, Stewart up until last week should all go because most of them have played a few minutes here and there. Many players have been signed from lower leagues and done well, he would be good back up if we have an injury or suspension. Going the rest of the season with two strikers is foolish.
What gives you the right and expertise to make these judgements? you are a writer not a football coach. As for finding targets who will improve rangers, since you seem to know alot about strikers, who do you suggest at a similar cost? I would love gers to get another striker as two for full season is really dodgy, Gerrard has also said he may need to strengthen in January, Shankland is a blue nose, one thing is for certain he would give his all for Gers. Also if we had a twelve team league on current for he would be in it, so not that far away from Scottish premiership football, it’s not as if he is languishing 2 leagues down or at the bottom of the championship.

James,
While I feel parlane has been a little rude, I agree with the thrust of his argument. We need three strikers. If Morelos gets injured on Thursday, we could not fight for the league with just Defoe. Even without injuries, Morelos will not be with us next season, Defoe may stay for another season but cannot be the number one striker at his age and there is no guarantee whoever is bought will succeed. So we need a minimum of 2 strikers in the next 12 months.
I said months ago we should pick up Shankland for free, offer him a low salary and point out that if he does well, it will go up. Morelos got 3 pay rises in a year.
If he fails, minimal cost and he goes out on loan. A 3yr deal would have cost less than we paid to sign Lafferty never mind his wages.
I appreciate that he is scoring at a lower level but he is older and wiser than he was at Aberdeen and he seems to have the scoring knack which is important.
We should have got him in the summer and we should see if he wants to come either January or next summer, depending on the price.

You are right Skibadly I have been little rude. I just got a bit upset at that pretty daming report on young Shankland, he has been nothing but professional. I am only questioning Mr Black’s football credentials and what gives him the right to tell us all, and that includes Gerrard, that Shankland should not be a target. He also goes on about Rangers looking elsewhere but gives no names on who he thinks should be a target. He also goes on about Shankland scoring in lower divisions, at present the team he plays for is one position off the premiership and would probably give half the teams there a decent game. Also if he is so bad why is he the only striker in Scotland who has been picked for the national team. Not many people wanted Stewart until last week. Look how much we spent on Herrera, Pena, and Grezda Shankland will not cost anywhere near as much. Last thing is where did we get Morelos? he was not exactly playing top european football so Mr Black reel in your comments.
