The SPFL could hand Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic the title early if the league is postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. That’s according to the Daily Record, who, via the Daily Mail, is claiming that the SFA is to be granted special powers to play games behind closed doors or make such decisions. They…
If the league cannot be completed it should be declared null and void for this season, it will happen with the Scottish cup if that can’t be completed so why not the league.
Can you just imagine if Celtic were in second place they would be pushing to get it declared null and void
I agree. In any other competition, if games cannot be completed then the competition would be declared null and void. If the Scottish premier League season cannot be completed this season, then the same should be done. The league championship is NOT a formality just because rangers are 13 points behind, allbeit with a game in hand. There is still alot of football to be played, and there’s no saying that Celtic could hit a slump, drop points, lose both old firm games, and the title race be wide open again. The SFA should do the honourable thing and, if this IS the route that is taken, declare the 2019/20 season null and void
I’d like to see it in the rules that this can happen. You can only win the league if the campaign is complete. Otherwise null and void as the other guys are saying. Imagine if this was the other way around and there was a suggestion Rangers would be handed the title if is was still mathematically possible for Celtic to catch us? No chance… null and void
So sorry to say but i disagree, celtic deserve title , when a boxer knocks seven bells out of you for 10 rounds u dont get the verdict just because u beat him in two do u ! And if u d9nt perform against the lesser teams u shouldnt be given a pat 9n the back just because u beat the team at the top once either … nope sorry its celtics title if we have to call it a day im league .
theboltkt… this isn’t just about Rangers and Celtic this is affecting the rest of the league.
You have teams vying for European places where they will earn extra money.
You have placings in the league where you receive extra money the higher the placing.
Then you have teams trying to get into the top 6, where they would benefit from the bigger teams like Rangers and Celtic traveling support giving them more income.
There is going to be a lot of unhappy chairmen.
If the SFA/SPFL went ahead with this
would teams be compensated and how would they achieve this, for me this would turn into farce.
Also you have the relegation issue, how can that be achieved.
This is a tricky situation if there are league games cancelled…whatever the outcome it won’t please everyone.Would a pools panel have to decide what the outcome of games would be…that really is only guesswork and could put a lower placed club into relegation and suffer serious financial difficulties.I personally think u would have to declare it null and void, don’t have any relegation and have the places for European football decided on league positions as they stand when or if the games have to stop.It isn’t perfect by any means but I can’t see another solution…but then this may never need to happen!
The league still has to be decided if it is not completed by way of playing your opponents then it should be suspended with no winner’s or losers. I know Celtic supporter’s would disagree but would be on full agreement if the position was switched. This virus wasn’t foreseen and will surely be the death of a few people and we shouldn’t be arguing about titles and money. Maybe we let UEFA decide later on when this has blown over.
I backed the favourite in the grand national anti post
Do you think the bookie will pay me out as a winner now that the race has been cancelled?
I think f_ _ k off dickhead comes to mind?
That’s the same with football as the favorite can still be caught! That lot of immigrants will do anything to get near our world record.
We all remember helicopter Sunday.
