Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has followed Neil Lennon’s lead and called for Old Firm games to be rescheduled for when fans can attend – and Rangers need to speak out and put an end to it. The midfielder thinks it would be “worth the wait” to postpone them until fans are allowed access to grounds…
I don’t know what McGregor is bumping his gums about the first decent offer from wee Brenda and McGregor will jump ship, he won’t be playing in the fixture.
As for the Eastend skidrowers they are corrupt trash they will try anything to gain an advantage, yes we should speak up but it will fall on deaf ears as usual and the SPFL will give them their wish …Scum!
Once again we have our rivals using the media to set the agenda to suit Celtic Football Club. I can safely predict we will have the usual reaction from both sides of the divide on what should be done appearing on all sorts of platforms over the coming days. Sutton, Hartson, etc will state it needs to be done this way as “Sky will want it like that” which will be meet with Alex Rae telling them to wind their necks in! Thank you Alex, you should be backed by Barry and Ally but I won’t hold my breath on either of them calling it for what it is, as strongly as they should.
It’s pretty simple to see if the SPFL post the fixtures and the first Old Firm game at Celtic Park is near the end (10th or 11th) of first set of games, we will know we are being run by the Boardroom inside Celtic Park not Hampden.
It would lead me to ask, “why did the Club who introduced the Sporting Integrity mantra feel the need to go public with their views on how the fixtures should be set up prior to the unveiling?”
Writing the term “Sporting Integrity” brings a ironic smile to my face since the League Cup final last season. Totally sure all will remember how the team who claim everyone, especially officials, are against them where allowed to parade the trophy while knowing the goal that day was illegal, “broke the laws of the game” Now “IF” we where talking about a truly BIG club (say like Arsenal) they would have taken step to replay the game but we are talking about a serial offender (1989 Scottish Cup) who manipulate their apparent need for Fair Play ONLY when it is against them. They are more than happy to accept any help when it presents itself, 2008 for instance? The Year Celtic Football Club asked for a Old Firm game to be cancelled after the very sad passing of a former employee with a few years service many years before but didn’t ask for any delay when either a former member of the board and the Father in Law of Lisbon Lion Jim Craig passed. When one of their ex players (part of the Lisbon Lion squad) and for many year the person who worked at the Club doing the “Fan Tours” once again no request to cancel a game. Last but by no means least in its complete lack of class, the fact no request to postpone the next game when the complete Gent that was Tommy Burns passed should be forever a stain on the people who choose to continue to play and not offer up a chance to unite the divided by saying they would support our Clubs request to push the last set of League games back. This would have allowed our team the chance to rest prior to a European Final and for their fan base to mourn a truly special person!! You may ask why they acted in this way and the facts are simply that all the actions above where to help their team and finance. First game cancelled because at that time they didn’t think they could beat our team in their next home fixture because their form was bad and not only was their “Star Player” our via a ban but also the “Holy Goalie” was not taking a injection (thus making himself unavailable for the next game) after straining his hand on the Saturday prior, his first game in many weeks after injuring the same hand. Second the other people all passed as the team found a rich vein of form and they knew Rangers where on their last legs due to the European run and the outstanding games. The other side always say we called the problem due to asking for one league game to be put back prior to our last Champions League home game against Lyon. This had played a part in it but only 25%, the Celtic request prior to the Old Firm was 25% and the Motherwell Gretna ground share, tragic passing of Uncle Phil etc caused the remaining 50%.
Sadly the cost to the League reputation can be quantified by the fee Celtic got from traveling to play a exhibition game in Naka’s homeland which was unlikely to happen if the season overran, cash over class should be their motto.
I have no great feelings for Celtic as am sure you may have noticed but one thing missing above is the need for me to use any silly child like abusive language, I hope can we all try this approach so making it harder for the Celtic fans reading our blogs etc to dismiss our points as uneducated, mindless or sectarian… please!!
Only one thing to say about this, 100% correct and well said
Totally agree Still, except I was on train back from Manchester when I heard about Tommy Burns, so pretty sure he died the night of or the next day after the Uefa final.
But the fact that he meant less to them than Phil O’Donnell is disgraceful. O’Donnell was a decent enough player and I am sure he was a nice person, but he had no recent connection to Celtic when he died. As you note, their grief was motivated by self interest, as was their lack of grief for Tommy Burns.
Still haven’t seen the video of their tour of Japan and I still nearly vomit whenever I hear them talk about “Sporting Integrity”
