Rangers captain James Tavernier is normally Mr. Reliable from the penalty spot but two recent misses should see him move to the back of the queue. Last night’s penalty miss in the 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock was Tav’s second in a week and there’s a risk teams are getting too familiar with him. (photo by…
Love this site and agree with you often but Tav didn’t miss because keepers have worked him out. He scored with a pen to the right, sent the keeper the wrong way and hit the left hand post with another then sent a poor one straight down the middle (an unusual option for him). I’m not necessarily disagreeing with changing pen taker (although I wouldn’t put more pressure on Alfredo and so far Defoe hasn’t played enough full games to make him first choice) , just saying the logic is flawed.
Sorry to be so repetitive, but if someone is mad enough to offer £5 - 8 million for Tavernier, we should bite their arm off! His tackling is poor…apart from the Celtic game and now he’s missing penalties, we could do better!
fin, your suggestions being?
The new guy Polster, young Houston? Anybody who doesn’t dance out of tackles like a big fairy!
I think youll find that Tavs record is better than you say if you go back to when he started taking them last season , St Mirren was the first one he missed , so it will a lot better than 2 misses in 11 .The keeper didnt work him out in the St Mirren game , he dived the wrong way and Tav hit the post and against Killie the keeper again dived away from it and only blocked it with his legs because Tav didnt catch it properly , possibly because of the surface , who knows .If he had given Saturdays pen to Defoe and he had missed , Tav would have been slaughtered for not taking responsibility . As for Morelos , Ive never seen him take a penalty so he may not be any good , he doesn`t always strike the ball cleanly .
And as usual we get a supposed fan wanting Tav replaced , by a guy he has never seen play or an untried youngster . I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion but …
Wigers4ever. I’ve been a fan for 65 years! Not supposed! During that time we’ve never had a Captain before who can’t tackle, isn’t brave and who having missed a tackle by dancing out of the way
( Aberdeen second half last week) then berates McCrorie for one bad pass!
I’ve said before he’s good going forward, but he’s not got much “bottle” and isn’t a Rangers Captain…in my view! We’ll not win anything with him as Captain!
Fingolf your entitled to your opinion and I`m sure that we could replace Tav with a better right back but it would cost serious money .He is improving defensively and creates so much for us he would be difficult to replace . My issue with what you said was ,you wanted him replaced by Polster ,who I bet you have never seen or Houston who is a prospect but has had two sub appearances only .Your comments about his captaincy again are debatable, I have followed Rangers since the sixties and I can think of some captains who were far worse than Tav .
