Rangers striker Jermain Defoe is out of contract in the summer and the Gers hierarchy must make securing the veteran hitman on an extended deal their top priority in January. Defoe’s deal at parent club Bournemouth runs out shortly after his Ibrox loan comes to an end but the Gers will be free to negotiate…
Yes, Jermain certainly deserves a contract to become a Rangers player. He is an ultimate professional who benefits our club on and off the park. WATP.
I think he wants to stay and we want him. But may leave it until the summer to make sure he does not slow down too much as he ages.
Then give him a 12 month renewable contract for next 2 seasons. then maybe a coach.
I don’t know what his man management is like, but we will need a manager when Klopp leaves Liverpool
I think all this Defoe talk is way way over the top. He is scoring and playing well but he did not score against Celtic or even play well against them, he has not scored against any of our European opponents apart from a really poor St Joseph’s, now he is being touted as a coach and possible manager if Gerrard goes to Liverpool. He does not even have any coaching experience !! I find it all totally bizarre. Not only that but we are not even half way through the season why should he get a new contract when we have not won a thing? it’s crazy talk. We have only played 8 league games all this talk is nuts. Also this is the glorious mighty Glasgow Rangers if we can spend 7 million on Kent surely next year we will be looking at spending a chunk of cash on a striker that is younger and can get a shot on target against Celtic. Sorry to be blunt but Defoe is doing well just now but has not proved a thing.
Until we see him perform against top opposition, maintain form for most of the season and maybe see him score in a cup final in my mind he does not deserve a contract. We should be striving for continual progress and constant strengthening of the team. Next year he will be 38 it’s actually laughable we are even talking about this just now. As for him being a possible manager when Gerrard goes it’s just absolutely crazy, Defoe has not got one bit of experience, at least Gerrard had a successful spell as a youth coach at Liverpool and has completed all his FA coaching badges. People who think he should be signed up because of a decent goal return against nobody after 8 league games need there head examined.
Isn’t JD eighth on the list of all time EPL goal scorers ahead of the likes Micheal Owen Robin Van Persie etc

also Go Go Joe Aribo or should we dismiss his goal today because it was against inferior opposition

I don’t care if Defoe is 1st in the all time top scorers in the world, what he did in the past is history, as a current Rangers player it means nothing if he cannot do it now. If he cannot prove he can score at rangers consistently over a season and give a contribution that helps us win cups, the league or get into Europe after Xmas, then we need to get players who can. As for a coaching role or manager I still think it’s nuts. He only signed in January 2019 we are only 8 games into the season and he has no experience as a coach. As for Aribo well done to him great to see our guys doing well and not sure why you are saying inferior opposition that’s crazy it was against Brazil.
