On Sunday afternoon, Rangers got past East Fife with a 3-0 victory in Methil. The blustery conditions made things more difficult than they may otherwise have been. Yet, goals from Jermain Defoe and Joe Aribo, with an own goal (credited to Helander on Twitter), sandwiched in between their strikes, ensured the Gers progressed to the…
Aribo didn’t start on Thursday. The only player who retained the start was Kamara
Jordan you could have said all of this in one paragraph you on commission for every sentence typed? There is so much repetition in this article. We have King, Arfield, Kamara, Aribo, Davis, Doherty, Jack, etc if he goes he goes. He may have had a decent season on loan but against who? I for one would be ruthless if they ain’t good enough ship them out. Docherty had a huge chance to show what he was about against East Fife, another team of no hope part timers if he cannot perform against them he should go.
Apologies Mike, my mistake. Think Kamara playing two on the bounce will mean he will sit out in Warsaw this Thursday. Aribo, Jack and Davis the strongest three we have?
For me it’s more a question of the message it sends out. There’s absolutely zero point in the loans process if they sell Docherty/send him out again. They signed the guy and gave him a four and a half year deal and then sent him to Shrewsbury. He was player of the season there and therefore literally couldn’t have done any more to help his cause. No player should be chucked after one poor game either, no matter who it’s against.
If a manager does not think I guy is not going to play a lot of games sending him out on loan achieves two things one it gets the guy experience and two, part of his salary will be paid so sending someone on loan is not just about getting him experience it’s also a financial decision. Docherty was not not brought in by Gerrard he has played around 13 times for Rangers he is also assessed when he trains day in day out. If Aribo can put in a top class performance against East Fife why can’t Docherty? as I said if he is not good enough ship him out. We need players who can play at European level if guys cannot perform against part timers when they are desperate to impress a manager then questions need to be asked about there desire, commitment and ability. Gerrard needs to stop 9 in a row with the squad we have docherty is not needed get him out and replace if need be with a better player.
Point taken there on the financial benefits, i’m just trying to suggest that over the last couple of seasons no one who has left the club on loan has got much of a chance again, regardless of what they achieve whilst away.
As for the East Fife display, Aribo and Defoe were excellent and there wasn’t much else to shout about. Andy Halliday was dreadful for example, but no one in the commentary box suggested he should immediately leave the club as a result.
Regardless, considering Gerrard said he wanted six central midfielders (and specifically mentioned Docherty as one of them in that press conference) I don’t think he will go anywhere during this window.
I also do not think he will go and he will be given other chances but I would as a manager be ruthless this is a very important year and hangers on should go. As for Haliday he had an off day but generally his performances are good and full of commitment and he offers other things to the squad such as a role model to younger players about what it means to be a ranger, we are also struggling in his position so his situation entirely different from Docherty hence no one said he should go.
