Rangers manager hints at replacing exit-bound star but it's really not needed

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ibrox winger Daniel Candeias is heading to Turkey for talks over a move away from Ibrox – but his comments about a signing potential replacement are worrying given how bloated Gerrard’s squad already is. The Portuguese winger missed the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers yesterday with Gerrard confirming…

Gerrard has been clear about wanting 2 players fighting for a starting spot in each position, and I can see some sense in what he said…

  • Scott Arfield can play on the wing, yes, but that’s not where he’ll be fighting for a position so we can discount him
  • Greg Stewart for me is a really odd one - he’s not a winger in my eyes and I think he’s squad cover for the strikers personally. Still don’t understand his signing.
  • Jamie Murphy I reckon is heading for the exit door, would not be surprised to see him go

So that leaves Ojo, Hastie and Jones - 3 players for 2 spots.

When Gerrard says he might go after a replacement I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s got the fact Murphy is likely to go in his mind.
