Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has called for changes to be made to Scottish Premiership scheduling, to help out the teams competing in European competition, as quoted by the Scotsman. Both the Gers and Celtic were in Europa League action on Thursday evening, but are back to Scottish Premiership duty just three days later. Rangers secured…
I find it hard to understand why the SFA hate Scottish football and Scottish football fans so much. Couple of simple changes would help Scottish football.
- As SG has noted, evening kickoff after a European game, say 5pm so that players have almost 72 hours recovery. Not for Rangers, for all Scottish teams in Europe, be it a Tuesday or Wednesday game in the CL or Thursday in Europa. Lunchtime kickoff Saturday in advance of a Tuesday game
2)Any Scottish team who gets past knockout stages should be allowed and encouraged to delay or postpone a domestic match if they feel they need it. If the league needs extended to do this, so what? Celtic can tour Japan a week later (if you are too young to get that, ask someone older!)
3)NO Scottish team active in Europe should be asked to play more than 2 games a week. This is not rocket science, it gives them their best chance of representing Scotland, which is or should be the aim of the SFA. I will never forgive them for forcing us to play 8 games in 22 days, costing us the league while representing Scotland in a European final. Wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, not even on Scott Brown and popcorn teef!!
