Rangers fans react angrily to sectarian singing UEFA sanctions

Rangers have been forced to close part of Ibrox for next week’s return leg against Legia Warsaw by UEFA [Rangers.co.uk] – and it’s fair to say the club’s fans aren’t happy. The sectarian nonsense in the stands continues to be a real blight on Rangers and the decision by UEFA simply must be a wake-up…

So, once again, a small minority decide to ruin it for the other supporters of our beloved club. 3000 less tickets on sale, 3000 fans losing the opportunity to even get a ticket, and the club hit in the pocket over the loss of the price of selling 3000 tickets. And for what? Because a small minority of so called supporters who are nothing but hypocritical? Sectarian songs coming from so called supporters who claim to love the club and idolise the players who play for the club? Hypocrisy? Well, how can you sing sectarian songs when players past and present are Catholic? From Mo Johnstone to big Lorenzo Amoruso in the past just to name two, to Connor Gouldson who crossed himself a couple of weeks ago after scoring for us, the club has had, and still continues to have, an abundance of top players idolised by fans and are indeed of the Catholic religion. So, in essence, in the small bigotted minds of this minority of supporters, you’re singing songs which are offensive to your own players!! Call yourselves supporters? You’ve just ruined it for not only yourselves, but also for every other TRUE supporter of our beloved club, and for the club itself. GROW UP!! We live in the 21st century, where there are more religious cultures throughout the club than your feeble little brains can bother counting! Maybe the lack of brain cells in these idiots can’t comprehend counting the amount of religions, because they can’t count past ONE!! Maybe now their little brains will click and work out that they are causing offence and destroying our club and every other true supporters reputation they give our club. Banish these idiots for life, and put our club back onto the map where they truly belong!

Following the deaths of Billy NcNeill and Stevie Chalmers a buoyant crowd having just witnessed rangers go two up against Celtic sang " Lisbon Lions won"t see ten in a row " This was no minority. It was thunderous .
The " anyone anywhere " campaign deserves plaudits. Just a shame it is well over a century late in evolving.

Just before a Rangers game we applauded Billy out of respect for a great player it’s not always how you would like to paint it

Good piece Marc coming from the heart and the head and time now to wisen up and maybe get back to some old non sectarian songs.I’ve been watching gers from early seventies and thru good times and not long ago bad times and never want to go thru this hell again.

Willis you often talk shyte but this is a great piece of journalism. If any rangers fans are reading this and are guilty of singing FTP or anything in that manner get to Eff and dinny come back to Ibrox or follow follow rangers unless you screw the nut, all this FTP anti IRA and bigoted garbage is not wanted so feck aff. It’s embarrassing, it’s pathetic and it’s hurtful not just to supporters of other teams but to rangers players and fans, I have many friends and family who are Catholic and actually support gers and go every week to Ibrox so give it a rest. As for the Pope what harm has he ever done to anybody? This is Rangers not some sort of bigoted establishment where thick pathetic little minds are wanted…so PISS off. One other thing Willis you put a lot of emphasis on fans to sort it out maybe we should get to see a proactive approach by the club, let’s see them ban fans, make statements about songs that should not be sung. Can Gerrard or King not come out and just say stop the FTP songs…and admit what’s going on and be totally upfront. The everyone anyone videos are great but why not have a video to say “stop bigotry stop FTP songs Stop references to King Billy and Ireland etc”. Only then we will see a clear message from Rangers owners and management to fans. It will also be groundbreaking to admit what is going on…
admit it and deal with it. As much as the current campaign is good let’s get into the nitty gritty and just be upfront honest and brave. All other campaignservices skirt the issue just token gestures.

A Rangers fan on SSB put it well there yesterday. The trouble seems to be the Union Bears start these songs and lots of fans join in. Maybe this will get the message that this has to stop. They are still reviewing the other Rangers games in Europe, and we may see an empty ground should Rangers qualify for the group stages.
