Rangers defender Borna Barisic has backed his skipper, James Tavernier amid a fan backlash, as quoted by the Scottish Herald. Some supporters have called for Tavernier to be dropped or even stripped of the captaincy after his two errors contributed to both Young Boys goals on Thursday night. A dejected Tav reacts to Young Boys…

It’s not hysteria, calling out Tavernier! “One bad game”…who are you kidding?

I’ve been pointing out, without hysteria, for over a year, that Tavernier is a liability and shouldn’t be Captain.

One bad game? How about the Celtic blunder, when we had 10 men fighting for a fantastic draw?
How about the away Cup game against Aberdeen, when he turned his back in a tackle, then 2 minutes later berated McCrorie for something minor. I’m sure McCrorie was motivated by that?

Tavernier is good going forward and his crossing and other dead ball moves are good…but it’s fact, not hysteria, to point out that his defence, and tackling in particular, is CRAP!

As I’ve said before…“We’ll never win anything with him in the team…let’s you down in big matches!”

Make Davis Captain!

Agree with most of this fingolf it would be Jack for me as captain.

Tav must be doing something right Rangers news when you look at the bigger picture. Joint first in the league with Celtic for goals against 5…2 league cup games 2 clean sheets…10 European games 7 clean sheets.
The positives outweigh the negatives

I’d have no problem with Jack as captain…we should have taken any money offered fpr Tavernier in the summer. Flanagan deserves a chance at Right Back (his real position), or Pollster. We’ve enough dead ball “experts”…we don’t need the Ballet Dancer at right back, or as Captain! Sorry if that sounds “hysterical”!

always yes always gets caught up the park and relies on his other defenders to bail him out, this is not another game that we have given away due to his inept defending, it has possible financial implications going forward! Yeah take anything (reasonable) offered for him before someone wakes up to his defending problems

As much as there is a lot of reasons to get rid of Tav they do seem to be about his defensive lapses rather than ability to get assists and hit decent free kicks. I think his main position needs to change to midfield. Also and I have said this in other areas of the forum, both goals against us v Young boys were avoidable but Tav not entirely to blame. Helander could have cut out the cross for 1st goal if he was faster tighter to the scorer and more alert. On second goal he gave away possession by a terrible header right into the path of on rushing opponents, any decent centre half would have headed it to the side it cuts out the angle if shot comes in. Also if headed to the side it is more likely to go out for a throw in or find a full back. If you head towards the middle the ball will always be in play and when defending in numbers it undoubtedly will fall to the opposition hence why we lost possession and the 2nd goal .
