Ahead of the weekend’s encounter with St Mirren, there was likely no doubt in Steven Gerrard’s mind as to who he would pick at left-back four days down the line, against Legia Warsaw. Given the lack of form demonstrated by both Borna Barisic and Andy Halliday and the recent reliability of Jon Flanagan, the scouser…
On the other hand, with the lack of an away goal it’s even more important that we don’t concede tomorrow night - I’d play Flanagan
Game will be won on goals. I think Defoe gets more free kicks than Morelos in dangerous areas as he tends to stay around the box more, so if Dafoe starts get Barasic in alongside him for those free kicks. If its Morelos I would prefer Flanagan in defence with Jones and Tav providing crosses for Morelos. I am sure Gerrard has done his homework on who the left back will come up against and choose accordingly.
“Game will be won on goals” - sparkling insight - Legia can score goals too Parlane - and their goals are of course worth more away from home
I think Flanagan the more suited to Celtic and would pick Barisic for Legia on that basis. I like Barisic but one goal does not make a career defining contribution
It would not surprise me if Gerrard goes 5 at the back with Tav Goldson Katic Helander Barasic. It would allow Barasic and Tav more freedom to go forward and still have a presence to fend off Legia breakaway attacks. A midfield four of Davis, Jack, Arfield and Aribo…and Dafoe getting tons of free kicks I see us winning.
