During Wednesday night’s League Cup quarter-final win over Livingston, few Rangers players covered themselves in glory. Scott Arfield was one of those who struggled to get a foothold in the game. Standard of player at gers is not good enough. Over 4 million on Helander and Edmundsun and 7 on Kent seems weird when we only have two strikers. Stewart is not the answer he was not the answer at Birmingham, Kilmarnock or Aberdeen so why Rangers. We may be winning games but most games have been a struggle.

Parlane , why is there a problem with only 2 strikers , we only play one at a time and as long as both are fit , which they have been , there is no issue .If we had signed another one then one of them would not have even been on the bench and I cant see Alfie or Defoe being happy about that .We need 4 centre backs as you never know what happens with injuries and Edmundson was bought as a player to develop for a fairly small fee . As for the actual point of the article , I agree Arfield looks as if he could do with a rest but we just dont look the same team without him .He was rested against St Johnstone and should be against Accies but it would be a big call to leave him out of the really big games .I would play Stewart , but in place of Ojo who will struggle with Aberdeens thugs.

You answered your own question in the 2nd and third line of your post. We have a long season ahead and it’s a very important season as we are trying to stop 9 in a row. All it takes is a suspension or an injury and we are left short. Why buy Hastie and not get the use of him in this important season, surely a bit of this cash could have been spent on a back up striker. An option of having a big tall strong striker in mold of Cosgrove is missing but having 4 centre backs and 19 midfielders on our books is in my opinion worrying. As for Arfield I think he has been struggling so maybe it’s time for King, we need an experienced international in against Aberdeen and this type of game is what he is used to given his premier league experience. If he is uncomfortable in a forward role then play Jack in that position he has a decent shot and is good with the ball at his feet and scored against Celtic in a more forward position or Kamara as he does for Finland. One other note, if our strikers are not happy because of competition from a third striker, tough titty, if you don’t deserve to be on the bench then you need to work harder. Problem is there is no one putting pressure on them other than each other so no harm in someone else being in the mix to keep them on their toes… Also playing one up front is fine but getting beat 1 nil when we need a draw to qualify for Europe after Xmas or win the league and you only have one striker available who is knackered with nobody on the bench well that would just be unforgivable.

I agree with someone coming in for Arfield, needs a few days rest at least. Stewart would be the most likely replacement given our injuries in attacking midfield. I don’t necessarily agree that we should have signed another striker. We play 1 up and they’ve scored over 20 goals between them in all comps so far I’m sure. If we can get the right player in January then fair enough but we’re playing same system and the forwards are scoring.

Well as I have said its a long season one striker gets injured one gets banned we are fecked. Look how many guys out already in midfield, Murphy getting back, Aribo, Kent, Barker, Jones and Jack carrying knocks. Only two strikers one at 36 years old, Euro games will get tougher and if you look at our recent harder games against Legia Progress and Celtic five games played one defeat and two draws among that its not great and only three goals in five matches one a last minute goal the other two not scored by strikers.

Here are the last 10 games of this worrying and ‘not great’ run Rangers are on

  • 8 wins, a draw and 1 loss
  • 17 goals scored
  • 7 clean sheets and only 4 conceded
  • qualified for the europa league group stages and sitting joint first after beating Feyenoord convincingly

Not sure why you are talking of last ten games. My comments were not about the last ten games. My comments especially the one that you quote was specific to our better challengers, not at any point did I use the words worrying not great"run". I was merely pointing out the struggles we are having against better opposition. You have either twisted my comment or not read the post properly. Last ten games is a good run but that was not my point you seemed to have missed it entirely or ignored it.

It’s a pretty good run after all isn’t it?

see my last comment.

Yes I see you’ve edited it now - cool I’m just helping us see the big picture here

I had not finished typing it
