For his first senior managerial role, Steven Gerrard has got a lot of things right so far at Rangers. Seemingly unflappable, he always says the right thing at the right time. While his recent chopping and changing in terms of team selection may have raised a few eyebrows, in general, he has got most things…
Yes, not sure what that was about. Anger with Grezda? He must have known Arfield wasn’t as good there and Coulibaly wasn’t good anywhere
Anybody who has watched Grezda play since he signed wouldnt have been surprised that he was left out.He was mince against Dundee and constantly gives the ball away .Gerrard went with a solid 5 across the middle hoping to keep it tight and sneak a goal either on the break or at a set piece. It was only when we had to open up that we lost control of the game and even then if it hadnt been for McGregors poor kick we might have got something .Arfield played wide right and left for all his time with Burnley in EPL, so its actually his current position that is alien to him.
Certainly agree with you about Grezda’s performances, hasn’t shown much quality so far and was very poor against Dundee. My point is more that Rapid weren’t a great side and with only Middleton holding any width, Gerrard didn’t even try to stretch them. They’re a team who average less than a goal a game in their league this season, so I think three relatively defensive-minded central midfielders was a bit excessive.
Yes a good point, Arfield played all over for Burnley. He’s been at his most effective for Rangers in that more central role though. Not an out and out winger by any stretch
