Kyle Lafferty has had his contract at Ibrox terminated by mutual consent, Rangers have confirmed The club released a statement confirming that Lafferty has left the Glasgow club, making him the fourth recent departure after Daniel Candeias, Jak Alnwick, and Ryan Hardie. The reports come shortly after Steven Gerrard told the press that a deal…

So much for nobody leaves on the cheap anymore. Lafferty goes for nothing, Candeias for a third of what we paid for him, Alnwick and Rossiter go on loan until contracts end.
We are not bringing in a lot of money and we can hardly be said ti be playing hardball

The key here though is getting the wages off the ledger.

Who was going to pay any money for Lafferty? It’s a good result for Rangers just shifting him off the wage bill rather than having to pay him for another year.

Candeias only had a year left on his contract, lets be honest was a hard worker but not rangers standard, and he’s 31 so not sure we could have got any more for him and again at least we got some money in the door plus his relatively substantial wages off the ledger.

Rossiter and Alnwick are essentially reserve players - who was going to pay a transfer fee for either?

The players Rangers will be looking for transfer fees on are the guys in the first team who aren’t at the end of their careers
