Another Rangers game, another two assists from the irreplaceable James Tavernier. As Rangers dismantled Hearts, we once again saw the influence of our captain on this side. Time and again Tav shows up when we need him. And not just in this desperate shouty way some fans demand of him. A target of criticism when…
It is a fair point. His stats are phenomenal. I would be happy to keep him unless we get offered silly money, £7M plus. We would lose a lot of assists, mind.
I do think he is more suited to a wingback role, while I don’t think his defending is as bad as some make out, it is not perfect and 3 at the back would help with that. A 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 would give him more freedom.
I would take the captaincy away though. While I have no problem with Tav, I think he fell into the captaincy as there was nobody else. People like Goldson, Arfield and McGregor had just arrived. I don’t fancy a keeper/captain anyway.
So, yes. I do rate him. But would rather the captain was someone who would speak to the ref more, protect the team from some ridiculous decisions, and be more visible.
