Last night, after a disappointing result, the knives were out. Not for Steven Gerrard, though. Fan reaction to the manager’s post-match interview, was largely positive. Instead, the usual scapegoat bore the brunt of the criticism. Captain, James Tavernier. Tavernier challenges Hibs’ goalscorer, Florian Kamberi. Sorry to say…I’ve been telling you so! He’s not a good defender and, as Captain, you need someone who can set an example. How can he cajole and shout at team defenders, when he is the worst tackler in the back line?
As I said a few weeks ago, we’ll never win anything with Tavernier as Captain.
If someone is daft enough to pay £3 million for him…bite their arm off…QUICK!!
Sorry, don’t agree. As the article notes, he has the most goal involvement of any player in the league. How would you replace that? Having sold Windass last year because people didn’t like him?
He is not the greatest defender, but on balance he gains us a lot more points than he costs us. Why nmot blame the front 4 for not having us 4 goals up by halftime? If attacking is not Tavernier’s job, why is nobody else doing it? Candeias, Arfield and Kent have the same TOTAL number of goals as Windass got last year in a weaker team.
We will want a lot more than £3 million, but if we get it some people will complain next season that we don’t get goals and assists from our right back.
I’m afraid we’ll never agree! I’m a firm believer that you need to first be really sound at the back to build a successful team. Our back 4 still isn’t the greatest, but having a right back who thinks he’s Puskas, isn’t helping!
Citing Windass as a loss, shows we’re miles apart! He spent 2 years at Rangers and never made a tackle!! He scored goals against teams like Peterhead, but didn’t score many against the stronger teams? We should have signed his Dad instead…he was a committed player!
How’s Josh doing at Wigan? Not much and I’m not surprised!!
