Rangers’ captain James Tavernier is a controversial figure amongst Rangers fans. He was lauded at the beginning of the season, as he struck up an excellent partnership with Alfredo Morelos and the Gers were scoring for fun. Recently, though, he has received a lot of criticism as the side are experiencing a difficult patch. A…
I’ve said it a few times on here, for me, Tav could cover our 10 position, his passing ability, running and energy make him a decent bet for an attacking midfielder.
As for the stick he gets, I don’t what it is with our fans, as soon as Windass left, they switched fire to Tav. No player should be consistently criticised, especially one who does not hide in any games. If Tav played for Celtic, I’d be worried about him playing against us.
Yes definitely, agree that he’s getting flak for deficiencies elsewhere in the team. You can’t expect to be successful without goals and the right-back shouldn’t be blamed for failures in that area, whether he’s the captain or not!
An interesting suggestion this, for sure.
The only thing that strikes me first up, is that it would leave a hole at right-back. Flanagan would likely do better there than he fared on the left, but still can’t imagine him showing anything going forward. With Barisic out injured again that means nothing offered in an attacking sense from either full-back position.
Certainly agree though that he would be one to fear if he lined up for the opposition - his engine up and down the right means he effectively offers two players for the price of one. Think Rangers are lucky to have him!
I’ve seen enough of flannigan to see he, s not good enough for Rangers… I thought to start with he was just a no frills type solid old stye defender… He would never get an 8 or 9 for striding up the park weaving past someone and shooting… But I thought he, d be solid but when the nervous side passing and slack passing started creeping in to his game as well as being caught on the ball and switching off… I started to worry and the excuse seems to be because he,s playing on the wrong side but a pass is a pass surely no matter where you play as well as concentration… And as far as barasic is concerned I’m fearing he, s a crock… He was injured when we bought him he,s broken down another twice… The most games per season he, s played is 32 but 21 on average and he,s 26 so he should be as strong physically as he, s going to be… In Scotland he, ll be expected to play at least 35 games a season if he,s first choice this means we need backup if he turns out to be the next jack wilkshire made of glass…
