Back in December, Sky Sports reported that Rangers were tracking Gillingham’s Tom Eaves ahead of this month’s transfer window. Steven Gerrard had already admitted the club were in the market for a striker, and it seems that Eaves was on an initial shortlist. Eaves played the full 90 as Gillingham shocked Cardiff City in the…
Hi, Gillingham fan here in peace
We have watched this player really up his class over 2 seasons and he does have potential to make it at a higher club.
Is he worth the risk for Rangers or any host of clubs from English Championship/Premiership tracking him, absolutely he will be cheap for any club as his contract expires in the summer.
He’ll also be on a fairly cheap contract at Gillingham.
He is still relatively young has shown improvement in class at a lower level club and he has a hunger and desire to perform to his best every week.
While press comparisons to Peter Crouch in terms of class are off the mark the potential for him to get there is there against stronger opposition.
He showed that in the Cardiff FA cup game setting up the goal with the assist. As well as hounding Cardiff defenders for high balls he also dragged players off the ball with him so does have intelligence as a forward too.
These are the highlights from that game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM6hsbvDgOg
Hi Matt, thanks for this contribution!
Great to get the perspective of a Gillingham fan, and it’s clear Eaves has done really well for yourselves.
He’s obviously a big physical presence, but can handle himself in front of goal, as those highlights show!
Seems as though the trail may have gone cold on this one for the time being, though.
How do you think he shapes up against League One’s other top scorers? Karlan Grant has been linked with Rangers and Celtic are apparently interested in Josh Maja. Is Eaves comparable to those guys?
