Is Allan McGregor the best Rangers goalie of all time?

Following his wonder display against Villarreal, Allan McGregor has been taking all the plaudits this week. It’s been well-deserved too. The Rangers and Scotland goalie might be 36, but he just seems to be getting better with age. Like a fine wine, the likeable character is full bodied and certainly brings immense value to the…

I saw all four of the goalies you mention, as well as the Girvan Lighthouse, Peter McCloy.

It is very hard to separate 4 of them. McCloy won a European trophy, Der Goalie was phenomenal. I think Woods may still hold the record for minutes unbeaten. I sat in the seat in front of Woods in the second half of THAT game against Celtic(when Gough scored I grabbed him round the neck, he stood up and my feet were more than a foot off the ground). All heroes, every one. Shagger? Everybody who follows Rangers now, or did 10 years ago, knows how good he is.

Except Goram. I would not have swapped The Goalie, aka The Flying Pig for Peter Schmeichel of Man Utd. I was at Ibrox when Leeds went 1-0 up. The whole crowd went silent for 20 seconds as they drew breathe, then created a noise I have never heard before or since for 90 minutes. Still at 1-0, I remember Cantona breaking through. My memory may have embellished this, but I saw Goram run out, pause and eyeball Cantona. He then flexed his knees as he went to dive at the ball. Cantona casually chipped him - but Goram was bluffing!!! His feet never left the ground and, keeping his eyes on Cantona, he raised his hands and plucked the ball out of the air. Cantona was finished, disappeared not to be seen again in the two legs of the tie. And history was made. I don’t know if it is true, but I heard from someone who claimed he saw Goram drink all night in a Midlothian pub before being poured into a taxi to Hampden where he won man of the match!!

McGregor is better looking. I hear he went on holiday to the Virgin Islands, now just called the Islands. But Goram was always better than a 10. The greatest I have ever seen live, in my opinion. And I saw Schmeichel too. Would not have swapped them. Goram was ours.

Great few stories in there skibadly :joy:

I think Goram is the overriding favourite for the crown. Shagger has been unstoppable this season though. He’s been huge for us.
