New Hibs owner Rob Gordon has called for the SFA to reconsider selling alcohol at football matches in Scotland in a move which could transform how Rangers fans watch football. The sale of alcohol at football matches has been prohibited in Scotland ever since the infamous scenes of the 1980 Scottish Cup Final between Rangers…

Better without alcohol when there is hatred involved, I don’t want to go back to bad old days of sixties and seventies I don’t think we have moved on as a country and I don’t think we ever will. As a kid I remember empty bottles whizzing by my head when standing at bottom of terraces, luckily I never got hit I was one of the lucky ones, it happened at all grounds with big crowds, as we got older we learnt to go to back of terraces.

Bad idea. Look at the behaviour that still happens when drunks get into the ground, without making them worse

England will give themselves any advantage possible over others.
They already bring in a lot more money than Scottish clubs due to the TV revenue.
The fact they sell alcohol and Scottish clubs do not, is yet another financial advantage in favour of English clubs.
I think in order to compete, Scotland are going to have to allow selling alcohol at matches.
It is either, every nation agrees to ban alcohol, or all nations need to sell alcohol in order to remain competing financially.
Also i think with all seating stadiums nowadays, the chances of a reocurrence of 1980 are rare.
Also alcohol would be sold in Plastic glasses, not glass, and there would be no bottles.
I think it is a must, as Scottish football needs another revenue source.
Though i think it should not be available for standing areas.
And possibly even only for supporters on the top teirs, that cannot get on to the pitch, and have no opportunity to fight with opposition supporters.
Making alcohol available for clubs that have upper teirs, and keeping it away from the lower teirs, may actually ironically make games safer, as the football hooligans that all like a drink, currently congregate in areas they have easy access to the pitch, and usually in areas close to the opposition supporters. However keeping alcohol banned from the lower teirs, and available in the upper teirs, may actually encourage the type that like a drink and a fight, to relocate to the upper teirs in order to drink, away from where they can cause a nuisance. Clubs selling season tickets would just need to remember and ask the individual if they intend to drink alcohol at matches, and make sure they do not sell season tickets for alcohol consumming areas, to non alcohol drinkers.

I agree with historic54 and skibadly it’s a different scenario in Scotland for one reason or another there’s too much divisions and the crowd mentality would intensify any perceived issues also the damage done and the fines would be crippling for some clubs, better to leave that particular genie in the bottle.
