Hearts announced on Monday that they had secured a pre-contract agreement with former Ger, Craig Halkett. The £450k-rated defender (Transfermarkt) will join on a three-year deal in the summer when his current contract expires. Halkett helped Livi to clean sheets against both Old Firm clubs this season. Totally agree. Liverpool may not have been in for him, but he knows the league, has done a good job at Livi, is Club Captain at 23 showing maturity and would be on low wages. In what way is it not worth it to bring him in and let him fight for a place? We need 4 CBs, we have 2. That would have been a cheap, competent third.
Bad mistake imho. Felt the same about Souttar
You would think a decision has actively been made to not go for him, as hard to believe his availability would have passed the club by. Interesting to see what route they will go down instead/if they have others already lined up. They better be proven if not cheap!
I think you are right, it has been an active decision. I assume they have others lined up. I don’t know if any of our youth players are ready for a step up, but Mark Allan and SG must know. But if we can get better than Halkett, free or cheap, great. Otherwise, questions will be asked.
To be fair of course, Halkett may have turned us down. He could/should be looking to be a starter and that may not be possible at Rangers.
