After figures with Rangers and Celtic connections disagreed over how they believe the Premiership season should be revolved, Alex Rae and controversial pundit Michael Stewart, have now clashed on Twitter. On Friday afternoon, Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, made it clear that he believed if the league season was ended prematurely, his side should be crowned…
I thought Stewart was a Hearts fan, is he not shouting from the roof tops for Hearts to stay up, and state it’s wrong to relegate them, instead of getting involved in what Rae said.
Did Stewart tweet Sutton to disagree with his tweet.
Contractually all the teams in the SPL sign up to complete a season. If for whatever reason these games cannot be completed to award anyone a title the constitution of the SFA will have to be changed. Correct me please if I am wrong this will take all the teams to agree to a change, I don’t think this can be done arbitrarily. The last time I believe the SPL was cancelled was 1939, for obvious reasons. I believe the games were halted see below. The problem will arise if this is handled badly not just Rangers and Celtic. The other teams that qualify for the EUEFA cup ,who makes that decision. As it does not look clear cut, also who decides relegation? It’s only a postponement so let’s wait and see.
The 1939–40Scotland. It would have been the 50th season of Scottish Football League, but the outbreak of the Second World War on 3 September 1939 caused the suspension of the league after five rounds of games played in Division One, and four rounds in Division Two. The league was not officially competed for until the 1946–47 season but there were regional leagues played during these years.
The season has to be completed or declared void. You cannot relegate teams from a league when there are still eight or nine games left.
I firmly believe that they need to cancel the league and the Scottish cup. No promotions or relegations. Europe will also need to be cancelled next year, this will reset everything.
As a Rangers fan, I’d be gutted if we were 13 points clear in the same situation, however, Celtic fans would be screaming for the league to be void if they were in our current situation. There are no winners or losers in this situation. But binning Europe and handing out no trophies, is the only way ahead.
This whole situation is really problematic for everyone and hopefully people can stay safe and something can be worked out for the various sports .
It has thrown up a really hilarious piece of hypocrisy from Chris Mutton .He writes in the Daily Rhecord that Celtic should be awarded the title if the games cant be played because they are 13 points ahead despite the fact that we have a game in hand and 2 OF games to come. However in the Daily Mail he writes that Liverpool shouldn
t be just handed the EPL title even though they 20+ points ahead and need only 2 wins to win it anyway.
What a fud !!!
Look boys/girls Sutton can hardly speak never mind discuss football. The more we write the more people listen to his unadulterated sh—.
simple quick solution ask for vounteers to catch the virus.bet that will be 50% of the population? the rest can carry on worrying about it.
totally agree with Ianrm70. If roles were reversed they’d be making the same arguments as us and vice versa. This is not the time for partisan pish.
By the time this is all over we will probably all know of people who have lost elderly relatives early. Let’s get a grip or else we all make ourselves look like petty minded arseholes who think that who wins the league is more important than it really is
country is in a national emergency and all you lot worry about is who gets what???
