Did Rangers' focus on derby day cost them Dominic Solanke?

As Dominic Solanke has his sights set on success at Crystal Palace, Rangers are still basking in their win over Celtic. If you offered Rangers fans either Solanke or that Celtic win, barely a person would’ve chosen the former. But did the club’s drive to succeed in the latter stop them from getting both? Whilst…

Utter tripe , just how amateurish do you think the club is ? They have a big game coming up so the manager , the DOF and all the scouting dept. forget about everything else , do you really believe the stuff you write. Interest in Solanke from Palace and Huddersfield has been rumoured for weeks now and both he and Liverpool would always favour regular game time in the EPL .He originally played for Chelsea so a return to London with Palace may also have appealed to him. Your continued attempts to create negative headlines is becoming tedious.

And so it begins.

There are no continued attempts to create negative headlines whatsoever. It seems to me you’re becoming a tad selective in that regard.

It’s an idea, nothing to get too angry about. Rangers failed to make a formal offer for the player. Meanwhile, as the club continued to prepare for a huge game, others pressed ahead with their interest.

By all means disagree, that’s exactly what this place is for. But don’t get too delusional and selective by claiming any of us attempt to be negative about the club.

I have to agree with wiggers here, not regarding the negative stories, as I for one think you all do a great job. You can all sometimes write nonsense articles (Joe Cole being a rangers fan I think is one that comes to mind, who cares?) but everyone makes mistakes (Apart from possibly Shagger) You guys produce a lot of stuff that is well written and enjoyable to read so I appreciate the work you do. Anyone reading the articles can tell you are all big blue noses and I hope you continue with your great work in 2019 and beyond.

The thing I was agreeing with however, was the idea that we lost out on Solanke due to the old firm game taking our attentions. I believe that for him he would have always preferred a chance to play in a better league. If he is a success in the EPL then he has a much better shot at making the Liverpool team, than if he does well in Scotland. Look at Kent for example, He’s been doing great for us but nobody is talking about him getting a game for Liverpool (Hopefully to our benefit when trying to sign him,) as there is a huge gulf in standard between EPL and SPL. Someone does great on loan at Rangers English media will say yeah but it’s a poor standard of league, yet if he does great at Palace for example he will give people something to think about when trying to make the Liverpool team next year. Though I guess on the flip side a loan to Rangers prepares you better for the pressures constant scrutiny and expectations that would be almost as big at Anfield as it is with us, yet if you are wanting to test your skills and talent at a certain level, then a loan to another club in the same league makes more sense.

TBH I feel like it might have been better for him to come to us, get regular games, make a big impact, and improve his confidence, but we will see how he gets on wherever he ends up. I don’t think that Rangers just completely ignored him due to the Old Firm game though, sure our priorities were rightly where they should have been on that match but if Gerrard had really wanted him I’m sure we could have made more of an effort to get him regardless of any matches we had on our schedule.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated. I totally agree. On occasion, sometimes we write certain pieces and it can take some time to truly reflect and think “does that piece really work?”, and you can understand some negative reaction to certain pieces.

Perhaps this even falls into that category, but it was more of an idea than something certain. Many fans will disagree and fair play to them as it’s your own opinion.

We do our best to create talking points, that’s it. Some will come across as good spots, others will seem a bit more far-fetched to the average reader.

In terms of Solanke, I think he’s personally made the right decision if he gets enough games. Premier League exposure is worth so much more than some goals up here. He’ll still have high ambitions of making his mark in this Liverpool team, and he needs a proper platform to showcase that. Gerrard would’ve given him games undoubtedly I think, but it’s difficult to turn down a move to the Premier League down there given its value.

I`m neither delusional nor selective and you can dress it up anyway you want , it was a negative headline followed by an article that implied that we had missed out a major signing because we had been amateurish . I know that you want to get readers and start discussions but this is an unfair implication and was based on nothing , certainly not on any facts or even rumours that had been circulating for weeks .Getting Solanke was always a long shot .
It was a headline worthy of the Scottish mhedia and not someone on a supposed Rangers supporters site .

Thanks William. Whilst I’ll always be keen to defend our website from accusations of consistent negativity, I respect your opinions on this piece itself.

I did not mean for it to rub yourself or any Rangers supporters up the wrong way. It was just a thought that I felt like putting to some supporters.

Thank you for your consistent viewing of our content at Rangers News.
