Steven Gerrard has a fantastic opportunity, where he is, to win things and develop a great CV as a football manager/coach. At Derby or Newcastle, he wouldn’t get the backing he’s getting/had from the Board at Ibrox. At Newcastle, he’d be dealing with an owner who was daft enough to get rid of Rafa Benitez, because he asked for proper financial support and Derby change Manager every year, because they only reached the Play Of Final?
I think that Steven will stay as long as he can win things and has Board support. He has eyes on the Liverpool job, when Jurgen Klopp moves on and doesn’t need to spoil his chances by risking going up a blind alley with some no hopers down South!
Championship is a difficult league, Derby will expect promotion in a year or two. Newcastle, one city club, high expectations but it’s not the 90’s and they’re not spending money so never going to trouble top 6 realistically at the moment. Gerrard has eyes for one job, Liverpool, they want to win things/succeed and he is in the perfect position to understand that as up here, 2nd is last. Like anything else he might go elsewhere but I think he is in the right place just now and it’s to our advantage. Let’s go…
