Could Rangers sell Morelos and Tavernier to fund a rebuild?

Steven Gerrard was candid about the need for quality reinforcements at Rangers. And whilst he stopped short of demanding a full-on rebuild, he intimated that Rangers need to improve. But quality costs money. And following the senseless investments of the Caixinha era, Rangers must be careful about how they spend going forward. That said, Gerrard…

I am not one of those who do not see Tavernier’s value. While not our greatest ever captain, or defender, he is a decent right back. Where he is more than decent is going forward. His stats would be very good for a winger. Some say that is where he should in fact be playing. Any team who lay three at the back would covet him. I would not be surprised to see offers come in, in fact I would be very surprised if they didn’t. We have Flanagan, a RB played at LB this season because Tav has RB sewn up. So while we would lose the goals and assists, we could live with it. For the right money, which i believe would start at £8 million.

Morelos is another matter. Right now, Lafferty is good enough to be third choice, which leaves a gap for a No 2 striker, someone good enough to give us the option of going two up front if desired. Personally, I would take Solanke on loan if possible. If SG and MA think he is good enough, sign Shankland on a pre-contract or buy him but let him stay at Ayr. Ideally, loan him to them for next season as well to see how he copes in the Premier League.

We have Hardie and Zak Rudden out on loan, both doing well. Hopefully one of them will be deemed good enough, even better if two out of them and Dallas can break through.

But Morelos has to stay until we have two other strikers good enough for the league and at the moment we don’t have one.

Then it is just a matter of trusting MA and SG to spend the money wisely

Simple answer is …NO . Why would we sell our best two outfield players to fund a rebuild ? If we think we are short of quality already, selling these two , who are quality , would leave us even shorter .You dont improve by letting your good players go .These two guys can produce for us ,there are no guarantees that anybody we sign will do better . We dont need a major rebuild anyway , we need a couple of players in , maybe even a player or two recalled from loan and few shipped out or returned (Ejaria and Sadiq are already away and perhaps Worrall and Coulibaly could join them ). If we were to loan Solanke and Dowell and sign Davis we would have a good squad to finish this season and further upgrading would then take place in the summer window .Evolution !
