They didn’t say he was not a key investor, they said that the biggest investor contrary to reports was not him. Big difference!
Exactly David. He has confirmed that Ashley is not their biggest investor. It would have been very easy to say Ashley has no stake in our business. Very easy. If true.
If it turns out Ashley is second, third or 859th largest investor, this could go badly wrong. Can’t believe Rangers would be so stupid as to not check this out prior to signing.
Also, what if the largest private investor is a shell company, owned by Ashley?

It would also have been easier for him not to mention Mike Ashley at all. He directly brings him up to make it clear that Ashley isn’t the super-rich UK-based investor people (mainly fans of rival clubs looking to stir up panic) have been speaking about.
I personally think there’s absolutely no need to be concerned about this. If Ashley had a small stake in the company, are we suggesting that he could somehow derail the entire £25m contract just out of badness?
Every single executive at Rangers who has discussed this partnership has made it clear that it’s something new, unique and exciting. I see no reason, at this point, to think those comments are unfounded.
After all the problems of the past, the club will have done extensive research into Castore and all their backers. There would have been other offers on the table and if there was any genuine threat of Ashley meddling in this deal, Rangers would have gone elsewhere.
Mike Ashley has nothing to do with Castore.
