Can Joe Aribo now start to live up to the hype at Rangers?

When Joe Aribo first joined Rangers, he did so to such fanfare that it spawned talk of Rangers getting up to £20m back on their investment. A clear talent, Aribo showed in flashes in Europa League qualification why Steven Gerrard is still “pinching” himself [RangersTV] that we got the lanky midfielder. And why Lee Bowyer…

Different league, different speed f football, moved North from London and all at a young age…Borna Barisic anyone?

JA will be an excellent player for Rangers, he’s still settling in and needs time and support. Last night against Ross County he showed incredibly quick feet.

I think £20m will be a steal for someone, but for now, let’s support him and endure he feels loved.

Completely agree with Iain. He needs time to adapt and settle in to a much bigger club, playing a different type of football, and he is under the microscope every second he is on the field. Let’s not forget the massively demanding (and often unrealistic) Rangers supporters, that he has to learn to cope with.
He clearly has massive potential, and he needs help, patience, and support to turn into the superstar we all know he can become.

Agreed Rangers supporters are “massively demanding” and sometimes “unrealistic”. Also agreed that Aribo has potential to be a great player however we need to win a trophy and stop Celtic winning the league THIS YEAR, this is not demanding or unrealistic. In King we have a guy who has won the league in England and has played in a euro semi final for Wales against Portugal but fails to get a start, it seems a bit odd given his credentials. I just hope Aribo and Ojo when playing play to the level we need in order to achieve the above as waiting for potential is in my opinion not a good idea when this year is so important, we need experience and guys who can do it week in week out. I thought King would be a starter before the inexperienced Ojo and Aribo or at least have played one full game by now given we have drawn with Hearts, Porto, Progress and Legia and have been beat by Celtic and Young Boys. Also struggled to beat Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Legia, Feyenoord and St Mirren. I worry the inexperience of Ojo and Aribo is playing a part in these results. Aribo had a good game last night, Ojo not as much he had a really poor shot that King may have buried given his past goalscoring achievements for Leicester. Both Aribo and Ojo need to do it against our tougher opponents in order we get anything this season. The inconsistency may prove costly if it continues.

You make valid points Parlane, and with regard to the necessity of winning the league/silverware I’m totally in agreement. However, Gerrard personifies Committment, Determination and What it Takes to Win, so there must be a reason that he’s choosing Ojo/Aribo over King.

I have confidence in Gerrard but I worry that Liverpool have put a clause in place regarding Ojo’s appearances hence the reason why he may be picked before others because his performances have not been the best, he has had some decent moments but he is very inconsistent. As for Aribo I honestly think Gerrard is of the opinion the more he plays the better he will become, which is great but still surprises me he is chosen consistently in front of King given his wealth of experience, King is fit younger than Davis, same age as Arfield and arguably has played at a higher level than both of them. Given the importance of this year’s league and European games I am baffled why King has not figured, especially when you take into account our performances in the games mentioned above. One or the other has started in most of these games.
