Gareth McAuley and Clint Hill have their similarities, but the former should look up to the latter ahead of what will hopefully be a successful Rangers career. In a way, Hill is the exact player McAuley should be aspiring to perform like at Ibrox. Whilst David Weir has been mentioned in the past as someone…
Wealth of experience, knows Rangers history and a good player to have around Ibrox, but for me its about his influence and occasional appearances not a 90 minute man. You get a Goldson or Katic sending off he is your man. A guy you need around the club and a great signing. Worrall not needed, he has no affinity with fans. views Nottingham as his club, makes mistakes not Rangers material.
A really good point Parlane. Perhaps Gerrard will actually view him as more of an experienced head to help guide Rangers in tough situations instead of a constant 90-minute man.
Suppose it might depend on his fitness levels too - can he actually play 90 minutes on a weekly basis given his age? It will be interesting to see what Rangers do at centre-back now. Would you stick with Katic and Goldson?
Goldson and Katic were forming a solid partnership there was no reason to drop Katic for Worrall in a key european game against Villareal. As a debut he was responsible for losing one of the goals and I thought it was a poor decision from Gerrard. I always thought that a central partnership was key to a settled defence and settled team so unsure why Katic was dropped as he was performing well it upset Goldson and his displays are being badly affected by the constant changes. I also feel that changes with Flanagan, Wallace, Barisic and Halliday is not helping though I know that some of this is down to injury. We need a settled defence and quicker the better, maybe the Big Irishman can offer Gerrard a bit of guidance in that area as there are no defenders in his backroom staff that I am aware of with his pedigree. One final point we need another striker why not go for Shankland from Ayr if he fails what will we lose other than a few 100 grand. In midfield Docherty I feel is much better prospect than Rossiter an injury prone but now fit player who is not pushing for a game. Docherty scored a great goal the other night and was shipped off far too quickly in my opinion. Worrall should go back to Nottingham he is not the answer Bates can also be used in this position.
Also on subject of Worral v Katic lets look at stats based on their first 11 games played according to Soccerbase.
Worral 3 games against european opposition to Katic 7. In the 11 games Worrall 9 goals conceded Katic 7. Worral 3 clean sheets to Katic 6. Worral 2 defeats Katic 0. It can be argued Katic had harder games with 4 more games in europe. I know who I prefer. Also Worral talks about the manager, talks about Forest paying his wages, talks about an offer from Burnley etc etc. He should knuckle down and train and keep quite otherwise he is going to upset many more Gers fans with his drivel. No class and not a very good player.
