Birger Meling would provide the solid cover Rangers need at left back

Birger Meling is a name that will be more familiar with Rangers Old Firm rivals Celtic. The Rosenborg left back has faced off against them six times in the last two years. He also scored the opener in Celtic’s 3-1 win over the Norwegian Champions in July. He might’ve eventually came off worse, but he…

How many left backs do we have? Flanagan, Barasic, Wallace, Halliday, and now talk of another. If Tav gets injured we have no one other than Flanagan, who for me is not Rangers quality his passes out of defence against the yellow submarines last night was awful. Halliday, Wallace and Barasic if fit are decent players but for me we need to get decent cover for the right, as for centre half position far too many changes, we need a settled back four but at the very least a settled central partnership…seems we are a long way off either and for a team trying to get into last 32 of euro competition that’s a real problem, as for last nights performance Villareal have been struggling all season and ok it was a decent result but looking at the group overall we should have qualified by now defence have let us down if not for McGregor we would be dead and buried.

I think Wallace will be on the way out in January mate. Talk of Wigan interest.

Halliday and Flanagan aren’t left backs. I genuinely believe we need more quality there if Barasic is out.

100% agree with big Shagger but I think we’re doing good here. We didn’t expect to be here and we’ve brought it to the last game. You’re right but, we could’ve taken better advantage at times playing teams in stuttering form.

I don’t watch Celtic games much…lol… however I did a wee bit of research and yes agree that this guy looks the part and is highly rated. Suppose I am just greedy, we need a settled back four and cover in right and left positions if Tav gets injured along with Barisic we are really struggling can you imagine playing Celtic in December with both out and no idea about a settled central partnership. its a bad result waiting to happen

Haha not at all, he’s just a highly rated left back.

I agree with you there man. They asked Connor Goldson about it yesterday and it certainly looks like it’s not going to change either.

Who do you think is our best pairing at the back mate?

Hard to work out because there is no consistency. Going by the first 11 games each of them played Worral had 3 games against european opposition to Katic playing 7. In the first 11 games both of them played Worrall 9 goals conceded to Katic 7. Worral 3 clean sheets to Katic 6. Worral 2 defeats Katic 0. It can be argued Katic had harder games with 4 more games in Europe. I know who I prefer on those stats. Also Worral talks about the manager, talks about Forest paying his wages, talks about an offer from Burnley thinks he is worth 11million etc etc. He should knuckle down and train and keep quite otherwise he is going to upset many more Gers fans with his drivel. I also think as stated in another thread Docherty, Dodoo, and Bates should have been given more time before being shipped off I would prefer Docherty to Rossiter, Dodoo to the bloke from Roma and Bates for Worral as he could have been a long term prospect. Great bringing in McAuley but he will not last 90 mins in many games especially the intense euro and Celtic games but hopefully he can be used in other areas such as influence in training for younger players.
