Former Rangers winger Barrie McKay thinks “bad management” forced David Bates away from Ibrox – but the Gers made the right decision over the defender’s contract. Bates left in the summer after his contract expired and he rejected a new deal with the Gers. (Photo by Athena Pictures/Getty Images) The Gers could have given Bates…
Personally I think Rangers should have made more of an effort to keep Bates.
He’s done well for himself in Germany, and he would have been reliable cover for Gerrard. They haven’t missed him too much, however, but I still think Rangers could have benefited from his services.
Said it a couple of weeks ago…Bates wasn’t good enough. His standard tactic was to hoof it up the park, straight back to the opposition. He was OK in the air, but on the ground he was hopeless! Will he still play for Hamburg, if they make it back to the German top tier? I wouldn’t bet on it!
