Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty need to be kept separate on Sunday

The partnership between Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos hasn’t been a fruitful one, and it can’t start on Saturday. Celtic arrive at Ibrox this weekend looking to put some daylight between the sides at the top-of-the-table. Meanwhile, Rangers will be desperate to hammer home their title-credentials and get that long-awaited league win over long-time foes.…

To be fair to Laff, he’s been helluva unlucky in the last couple of games, millimeters away from scoring a barrow load of goals. He just needs a a couple to fall for him then he’ll start banging them in again, happens to every striker

I’d love to see Tav as an attacking midfielder, with Flannigan at RB, then it wouldn’t be a discussion with one or two up front.

To win against Celtic, we need to control the tempo of the game, someone with Tavs physical ability playing in the middle could do that. Clearly it’s a long shot, but if we have no real attacking CM, in my view, we need two up front.

Merry Christmas,

Iain

Think you are being a bit harsh here tbh. When Lafferty came on against St Johnston he changed the game for us, sure he didn’t score but was only stopped by a couple of great saves. He drew defenders towards him and created more space for Alfredo, which allowed him to come into the game more. While I agree the partnership hasn’t worked too well at the start you need to remember that sometimes it takes time for players to gel. Lafferty was great for us on Sunday and looked to work well with Alfredo.

I don’t buy the takes players time to gel idea for this one Mike. They’ve now been together for half a season and have countless training sessions to get used to each others games.

Lafferty has been totally underwhelming in my opinion. He runs around and is desperate to make an impact, but I don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough to mount a serious title-challenge on. Meanwhile, Morelos needs help and I don’t think he gets enough from Lafferty overall.

Fair enough David, each to their own, but every player is different I personally believe that it takes some players more time than others to gel and start to click, the more you play together the better you will get. One example of this was when Sanchez first started playing together with Di Natalie at Udinese, the first season they were both poorly under performing the second season they got better and by the third season they knew each others game and were pretty much unplayable. Now obviously we don’t have time to wait that long for Alfredo and Lafferty to sort it out, and hopefully we bring someone better in in January, but I feel like there has been promise shown between the two and believe (or maybe just hope) that something could develop there. But yeah a better quality striker than Lafferty is needed for 55 .
