Am still coming to terms with the loss last night and our form since the winter break. No point in beating the unwashed and then dropping points to almost everyone else. It’s going to take a miracle now to stop 9IAR. Our focus has to play every game as if it is the last game of season. I remember the great run we went on in 72/73 and although we missed out in stopping them to the League, we beat them in the Scottish Cup Final. WATP.
I regret to say it again, but the League challenge went down, when we lost to Hearts!
I don’t think our squad is good enough, overall, to claw back the current deficit. We’re held back by being based around one striker up front. When Morelos is suspended, we’ve very little up front. Defoe is a good goal poacher, but he has no chance in the air and finds it hard to hold the ball up for the team.
Our squad is loaded with midfield players and, guess what, we brought in another one in January, Haji, who may turn out to be great but not really the priority. What we need is another 2 good, strong, young front men to fill in for Morelos, when he inevitably goes.
Finally, when Scottish Football came up with a “Winter Break” to give players a rest, mid-season, what do we do? We take them off and run the legs off them in a so called “second pre-season”. To me that’s mad? The players needed a week off, totally away from football, then a week back preparing for the heavy February schedule!
We need to be planning NOW for next season…work out who’s going, for money, and deciding if any of our young players are going to be good enough ongoing. If not, use the money from disposals to get some good prospects lined up for the summer.
Meanwhile, let’s hope we can win the Scottish Cup?
