Steven Gerrard has hinted at why Nikola Katic was left out of the Rangers team against Hibernian on Wednesday night, as quoted by the Daily Record. The 23-year-old centre-back had started all previous fixtures in 2020 but dropped to the bench as George Edmundson was brought in to partner Connor Goldson. Edmundson made it into…

I think Katic has been unlucky here as it’s clear that Goldson can do no wrong in SGs eyes. Katic is more suited to defending under pressure and that doesn’t happen often in Scotchland. Katic is the strongest in the air but can’t pass the ball well but is no worse than Goldson in that respect. I am happy to see Shooders get his chance as I think he’s got a big future in the game and he is very confident on the ball, not the best in the air but again I’d say better than Goldson. Our best pairing could be Katic and Edmundson but barring injury Goldson is first pick for the foreseeable future, it’s a good problem to have, though, as we’ve got the best CH options in the country.

If Katic is dropped because he underperforms, then others should face the same fate - but don’t.

Plausible explanation from Gerrard he wanted the ball moved out of defence quicker and Edmundson provides that.
